Welcome

Welcome to the Shetland Sheepdog Club of Wales website.  We hope you enjoy looking at it and find it helpful.  On our pages you will find details of our committee members (who are always willing to help and advise on all aspects of sheltie ownership) (Committee), details of events and shows (Show and Events Diary), a register of puppies available (Puppy Register) and links to other sheltie sites (Links).

We are here to promote happy and healthy shelties. The club carries a Code of Ethics and we do our best to check that puppies rehomed via the puppy register are going to safe and satisfactory homes.

We hold 2 open shows and 1 championship show each year.  In addition we arrange fun events for both show and pet shelties throughout the year.

Whatever discipline you are with we wish you all well and hope you enjoy our site.

Privacy Policy and Data

The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Wales (SSCW) takes your privacy seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information. We hereby set out how the Club uses the information that you provide to us in order to administrate the Club.

The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Wales (SSCW)

The Club was formed in 1968 as a regional Breed Club to promote showing of the Breed, promote health in the Breed and socialise within the Breed.

We do not sell your data to any third parties although we may from time to time share your data with other Breed Clubs in the UK, the Shetland Sheepdog Breed Council and the Kennel Club. If your details appear on our Judges list, your data could be shared with the Kennel Club or any other Clubs looking for Judges.

The Secretary is the first point of contact for the Club’s information and Data.

How SSCW collates its information

Membership details are kept by the Secretary and Treasurer. Membership details are never published without the consent of the Secretary

Information from our Re-homing Services are kept by the Re-homing Co-Ordinator and are never published except on application from the Secretary.

SSCW also collects data from you if you purchase goods or services from us. No payment details are held by the Club but may be held by our payment providers HSBC Bank and On-Line Services. These transactions are subject to each Provider’s own policy.

We are obliged by the Kennel Club to hold your details when you enter one of our Shows. We urge you to use the GDPR feature on our Exhibitor Forms if you do not want your name published in a catalogue.

The Law regarding Protection of Personal Information

The Law on Data Protection is evolved from various pieces of Legislation. These include the Data Protection Act and the newer General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into force in May 2018. GDPR states that personal data can only be stored or used if there is a legal reason to do so. The GDPR provides six legal reasons under which personal information can be used in a way that is lawful. For the processing to be permitted by Law, at least one of the Legal grounds must apply.

Three Legal grounds that are most relevant to SSCW’s use of your personal data is:

  • Consent
  • Legitimate Interest
  • Contract

Application of the Law to SSCW’s use of Personal Information

SSCW will only use your Personal Information if we have:

  • Asked you and have a record of your express “Consent” for us to do so;
  • A “Legitimate Interest” to do so in order to administer the Club
  • A “Contract” with you that we can only fulfil by using your Personal Information to enable us to provide you with the Services that you have requested

SSCW will not prioritise our interests as a Club over your interests as an individual and will balance our interests with your rights. Your Personal Information will only be used in a way that you would reasonably expect in accordance with this policy.

SSCW will not rent, swap or sell your Personal Information to other Organisations.

In order to maintain communications with you and inform you of SSCW’s activities it is essential that we gain your “Consent” and that it is current.

“Consent” can be withdrawn by contacting the Secretary.

Interpretation of Legitimate Interests

The Legal reasoning of Legitimate Interests is that an Organisation can process your Personal Information if they have:

  • A genuine and Legitimate reason for doing so
  • That does not harm any of your Rights and Interests as an Individual

We will always respect your Rights.

There are three groups that fall into this category

  • Members
  • Judges on our Judging list
  • Members of the Public who have re-homed or adopted a dog

We hope that you are happy for us to keep and use your Personal Information unless you tell us not to.

Members

To maintain your Membership of the Club we need to keep your data. As of May 2018, we promise not to keep your data for longer than two years. This could be shorter in exceptional circumstances.

Judges on our Judging list

We hope that people on our Judging Lists approve of the Club to promote them to Dog Clubs and Societies as potential Judges for their Shows.

Members of the Public who have re-homed or adopted a Dog

We hope that the dog that you have re-homed or adopted from us would like to maintain contact throughout the life time of the dog. We would like to maintain your Personal Information to allow for this, unless you tell us otherwise.
